🕌 First People to Embrace Islam (610 CE)
1️⃣ The Very First Muslim
Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (رضي الله عنها) 🕊️
Role:
- The first woman to believe in the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
- Wife of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
- Believed immediately after the first revelation in 610 CE
- Comforted and supported him spiritually & financially
- When Jibril (Gabriel) came to the Prophet ﷺ in the Cave of Hira with the first verses of the Qur’an —
"Read in the Name of your Lord who created…" (Qur’an 96:1-5)
The Prophet ﷺ returned home trembling, and Khadijah comforted him saying:
“Never! By Allah, Allah will never disgrace you…” (Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 4953)
- She reassured him, took him to Waraqah ibn Nawfal, and accepted Islam without hesitation
2️⃣ First Child
Ali ibn Abi Talib (رضي الله عنه) 🌟
Role:
- First male child to accept Islam.
- 10 years old at conversion
- Grew up in the Prophet’s home
- Later became the 4th Caliph of Islam
- At only 10 years old, he saw the Prophet ﷺ and Khadijah praying, and asked about it. Upon learning about Islam, he accepted it immediately. (Ibn Hisham, Sirah, Vol. 1)
- Ali was raised in the Prophet’s household, which helped his early exposure to the message.
- Later became the 4th Caliph and one of the ten promised Paradise.
3️⃣ First Freed Slave
Zayd ibn Harithah (رضي الله عنه) 🤝
Role:
- Adopted and treated like a son by the Prophet ﷺ
- Loyal and steadfast companion
- Zayd was a freedman and adopted son of the Prophet ﷺ (before adoption was abolished in Islam).
- He accepted Islam early, stayed loyal through persecution, and was the only companion mentioned by name in the Qur’an:
“So when Zayd had finished with her, We gave her to you in marriage…” (Qur’an 33:37)
4️⃣ First Adult Male
Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (رضي الله عنه) ❤️
Role:
- First free adult male to accept Islam
- Closest friend of the Prophet ﷺ
- First Caliph after his death
- Invited many others to Islam
- His conversion was instrumental — he invited many prominent figures who became early Muslims.
- The Prophet ﷺ said:
“I have never invited anyone to Islam except that they hesitated — except Abu Bakr; he did not hesitate.”
(al-Sunan al-Kubra by al-Bayhaqi, 1/88) - Abu Bakr’s da’wah brought Islam to Uthman ibn Affan, Talhah ibn Ubaydullah, Al-Zubair ibn al-Awwam, Abdur-Rahman ibn Awf, and Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas.

Qur’anic Support for the Early Believers
While names are not always mentioned, the Qur’an praises the early converts:
- “And the first forerunners among the Muhajirun and the Ansar, and those who followed them with good conduct — Allah is pleased with them…” (Qur’an 9:100)
- “…Those who believed first and emigrated and strove hard with their wealth and their lives…” (Qur’an 8:72)
Early Chronology (610–615 CE)
- 610 CE: First revelation; Khadijah accepts Islam.
- Shortly after: Ali ibn Abi Talib, Zayd ibn Harithah, Abu Bakr as-Siddiq accept Islam.
- Abu Bakr’s influence: Brings in several notable companions.
- 612 CE: Start of public preaching at Mount Safa (Surah 26:214 revealed).
- 615 CE: First migration to Abyssinia due to persecution.
