First Ten Days of Dhul-Hijjah

باب نَهْيِ مَنْ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهِ عَشْرُ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ وَهُوَ مُرِيدُ التَّضْحِيَةِ أَنْ يَأْخُذَ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ أَوْ أَظْفَارِهِ شَيْئًا

When the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah begin, it is forbidden for the one who wants to offer a sacrifice to remove anything from his hair, nails or skin


وَحَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُعَاذٍ الْعَنْبَرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو اللَّيْثِيُّ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ مُسْلِمِ بْنِ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أُكَيْمَةَ اللَّيْثِيِّ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ، يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ، زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم تَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ مَنْ كَانَ لَهُ ذِبْحٌ يَذْبَحُهُ فَإِذَا أُهِلَّ هِلاَلُ ذِي الْحِجَّةِ فَلاَ يَأْخُذَنَّ مِنْ شَعْرِهِ وَلاَ مِنْ أَظْفَارِهِ شَيْئًا حَتَّى يُضَحِّيَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏


Umm Salama, the wife of Allah's Apostle (ﷺ), reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to have said: He who has a sacrificial animal with him whom (he intends) to offer as sacrifice, and he enters the month of Dhu'I-Hijja, he should not get his hair cut or nails trimmed until he has sacrificed the animal.

Ummu Salama, matar Manzon Allah (S.A.W) ta ce: Manzon Allah (S.A.W) ya ce: “Wanda ya yi layya tare da wanda (ya yi nufin) ya yi layya da shi, kuma ya shiga watan Zu’I-Hijja, kada ya yanke gashin kansa ko a yanke farce har sai ya yanka dabbar.

Sahih Muslim 1977

وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَاذْكُرُوا اللَّهَ فِي أَيَّامٍ مَعْلُومَاتٍ أَيَّامُ الْعَشْرِ، وَالأَيَّامُ الْمَعْدُودَاتُ أَيَّامُ التَّشْرِيقِ. وَكَانَ ابْنُ عُمَرَ وَأَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ يَخْرُجَانِ إِلَى السُّوقِ فِي أَيَّامِ الْعَشْرِ يُكَبِّرَانِ، وَيُكَبِّرُ النَّاسُ بِتَكْبِيرِهِمَا. وَكَبَّرَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ خَلْفَ النَّافِلَةِ.

Ibn 'Abbas said, "Remember Allah during the well-known days; i.e., the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, and also the fixed number of appointed days; i.e. the days of Tashriq." Ibn 'Umar and Abu Hurairah used to go out to the market saying Takbir during the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah and the people would say Takbir after their Takbirs. Muhammad bin 'Ali used to say Takbir after Nawafil.

Ibn Abbas ya ce: “Ku ambaci Allah a cikin fitattun ranaku; watau goman farkon Zul-Hijjah, da kuma kayyadaddun adadin kwanakin Tashriq”. Ibn Umar da Abu Hurairah sun kasance suna fita kasuwa suna takbirai a cikin kwanaki goma na farkon Zul-Hijjah kuma mutane suna yin kabbara bayan suma sunyi kabbara. Muhammad bin Ali ya kasance yana yin Takbir bayan Nawafil.

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَرْعَرَةَ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏"‏ مَا الْعَمَلُ فِي أَيَّامِ الْعَشْرِ أَفْضَلَ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ فِي هَذِهِ ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالُوا وَلاَ الْجِهَادُ قَالَ ‏"‏ وَلاَ الْجِهَادُ، إِلاَّ رَجُلٌ خَرَجَ يُخَاطِرُ بِنَفْسِهِ وَمَالِهِ فَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ بِشَىْءٍ ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "No good deeds done on other days are superior to those done on these (first ten days of Dhul Hijja)." Then some companions of the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Not even Jihad?" He replied, "Not even Jihad, except that of a man who does it by putting himself and his property in danger (for Allah's sake) and does not return with any of those things."

Ibn Abbas ya ruwaito cewa: “Manzon Allah (SAW) ya ce: “Babu wani aikin alheri da aka yi a wasu kwanaki da ya fi wanda aka yi a cikin wadannan kwanaki (kwanakin goma na farkon Dhul Hijja). Sai wasu Sahabban Manzon Allah (SAW) suka ce, “Koda Jihadi ne? Sai ya amsa da cewa: “Koda ma jihadi ne, sai mutumin da yayi ta hanyar jefa kansa da dukiyarsa cikin hatsari (don Allah) bai dawo da komai daga cikin wadannan abubuwan ba.
