Tsarin Tashi da Dare — The Complete Night Routine (Tahajjud & Istighfar)
A full spiritual guide (Hausa & English) for how a Muslim should wake up in the night to worship Allah — step-by-step with meaning, virtues, and supplications.
What to Do When You Wake Up at Night (English)
- 1. Make Intention (Niyyah): Before sleeping, make a sincere intention to wake up for worship. Say quietly in your heart: “I intend to rise in the night for prayer and remembrance of Allah.”
- 2. Wake up calmly and make Wudu: When you wake, don’t rush. Sit for a few seconds, thank Allah by saying:
الْـحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ
Then perform fresh ablution (Wudu).
Alhamdulillāh alladhī aḥyānā ba‘da mā amātanā wa ilayhi-n-nushūr.
“All praise is due to Allah who gave us life after death (sleep), and to Him is the return.” - 3. Pray Tahajjud (Night Prayer): Begin with 2 rak‘ahs, then add more if you wish (up to 8 or 12). Pray with humility, peace, and reflection. The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer.” (Muslim)
- 4. Recite Qur’an Slowly: You can recite short Surahs (e.g., Al-Mulk, Al-Sajdah, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas, etc). Reflect on meanings and let your heart connect with Allah.
- 5. Engage in Dhikr & Istighfar: Repeat often:
أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ رَبِّي وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْهِ — Astaghfirullāha Rabbī wa atūbu ilayh
The angels record every word you utter in remembrance.
سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ، اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
“Glory be to Allah, All praise is due to Allah, Allah is the Greatest.” - 6. Make Special Du‘ā (Supplication): This is the most blessed time to ask for anything — forgiveness, sustenance, success in business, increase in customers, guidance, and peace of heart. Allah says:
"Is there anyone asking, so I may give him? Is there anyone seeking forgiveness, so I may forgive him?" (Hadith Qudsi)
- 7. End with Witr Prayer: Always conclude your night with an odd number of rak‘ahs (1, 3, 5). It seals your night worship beautifully.
- 8. Continue Dhikr until Fajr: Sit quietly remembering Allah, making Istighfar, or reading short du‘as until the Fajr prayer time enters.
